Under Bridge(near Prospect and Woodstock) Milw. WI

October 2, 2007
11:45 p.m.

This recording was done near an intersection that had some road repairs being made. There were also some restaurants nearby that had there exhaust fans blowing on their rooftops. The intersection of North and Oakland was also very congested at this time of day, especially with the construction.

This area was interesting because there were numerous sounds occurring all at the same time. There were two large cranes hauling building supplies along with a back hoe that was digging a trench. Another item that could be heard was a steel plate the was laying on the road covering a hole they had previously dug. Cars and trucks were running this over and it would bounce slightly.

Western Part of McKinley Marina (behind yacht club) Milw. WI

Down in the marina the wind was much stronger than in other places I recorded. This turned out to be helpful to get a nice range of different sounds here. There weren't many boats in the water in this location since it was off to the side from the main part of the marina.

This is another sample I took in the marina. Although not far from the last recording, I found this to be a completely different sound. The day I went out to record, the marina was under a very heavy fog and it made it impossible to tell how many boats were docked here that could be heard.

Drainage Pipe Under Lafayette Bridge

October 2, 2007
2 p.m.

This is a sample I collected just off of a bike path that runs along Prospect Ave. by the lake. I did this by placing the pair of microphones into a pipe that appeared to once have been be used for drainage purposes. The pipe looked like it was not used for years due to high amounts of rust and corrosion and the collapse of the bricks surrounding the pipe.
